For sga_saturday week 34 - gossip.

NOTE: This is set in the Remedial Leadership universe that I started – meep – back in 2007. There really is an ending to the series... what's been published is currently here: http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=10951 I'll be working on getting the missing pieces up soon! But this prompt was a great incentive to dust that off.

Scrubbing tormack in preparation for roasting was always a less than awful thing to be doing in the kitchens. For one thing, roast tormack! For another, it made just about everyone happy to see on the menu. In all, made of win. Even having to scrub the individual tubers by hand to not tear the delicate skin was worth the time it took.

"Hey! Did you hear what Serita was saying?" Nate Hackett asked as he dunked the tormack he had been scrubbing in the pot next to him to finish cleaning it and set it aside to dry.

"No," Angela Matias replied. "What was it?"

Nate looked about quickly to see who else might be listening. He lowered his voice, "She said that she heard that McKay and Sheppard have finally hooked up!"

"Really?" Angela breathed, glancing about. McKay and Sheppard were respected for their leadership in Atlantis and they worked hard to keep what little they had of their private lives private. Which spurred discussion and curiosity about their private lives even more. "Any details?"

Nate shook his head. "Nah, just speculation. But the Colonel's supposedly been seen coming out of McKay's room more than one very early morning recently. At least that's what Serita said."

"It's about time," Angela huffed. "They've been pining over each other since... since forever."

"Good afternoon," Miko Kusinagi's voice came softly from the doorway.

Nate blushed crimson while Angela bent over her stack of tormack to continue scrubbing.

"Do you need more assistance?" Miko asked in her quiet voice. But there was an underlying steel laced thread of You do not talk about Dr. McKay like that in the simple question. As Dr. McKay's second in command she was relentless in protecting him.

"We're fine," Nate assured her. "We should be done in less than an hour. That will be about right to put into the ovens before dinner."

"Training tomorrow," Miko reminded them.

"We'll be there," Angela replied. "Looking forward to what Major Lorne can teach us about camouflage."

Hackett and Matias were on Kusinagi's unofficial Gate team and Lorne carved time out to make sure they got regular training. They didn't go on missions regularly but they served as a disaster backup team and had seen action in the year the expedition had been cut off from Earth. Now that there were more people in Atlantis, military and civilians, they worked as part of city security.

"Let me know if you would like help," Miko added.

"Not a problem!" Nate replied cheerfully.

As Miko exited the room, she glanced back and gave them a quick grin. "It is about time."

Great snippet. I've always loved Kusanagi and your original characters are darn good as well. Yes please start posting again in Remedial Leadership as it is one of my favorites. I've been hoping you would start writing it again and sorry I have failed to comment on it before.
