Title: Waiting for the coast to clear
Author: Sharpes_Hussy
Rating: G
Prompt: Spartan
Summary: Sheppard had had a runin with TPTB

Sheppard was hunkered down off world.
He had slipped out the gate after telling control he was headed to Alpha site to
check out a problem, but instead had dialed another address, which he had remembered from another off world mission. There had been a falling out with TPTB and he needed some time to regroup, but from the comm he was receiving,
it looked like it might be a long time.
Things were not going well on 'homebase', but when was that news?
As he thought about what had precipitated the shouting match, he began to reflect on what had happened earlier in Afghanistan, when he picked up when they had ordered him to return.
Life was full of things that had not gone according to what others had intended, 'others' being the keyword.
What was it that a flight instructor had once said to him during basic flight training?
"Sheppard, are you just a screwup, or do you really believe in what you're doing?"
He hated it when they got in your face whenever they asked you a question.
It had of course been followed by EMI, extra military instruction.
Ah yes, EMI, fraught with a lot of boot gymnastics, and sometimes, if the offense was sighificant enough, humping a rifle around the perimeter.
Nobody had ever explained why an AF officer would be required to do that.
He smiled to himself at the recollection as he rummaged around in his pack to retrieve the items he had picked up in the mess before his departure.
Pulling out an assortment of Power Bars, he thought of how pleased McKay would be  at his selection, particularly the part about how many he had managed to squirrel away for his, "I'm running away from home and I dare anyone to come after me" expedition.
He began to unpack the rest of his gear after he found a particularly comfortable site.
It was under a large sprawling tree, which reminded him fondly of the magnificent
evergreens that surrounded the family lodge in the mountains.
Sheppard figured Lorne could handle it as he waited for TPTB to signal truce, happy that he was away from it all for now.

"..he ran away from home."
Well sort of

Thanks so much for adding those tags
I don't know what it means when it says I have too many?????
And I still don't understand why it would not allow me to
post to public, unless I went into my options and changed from
friends only to public.
**rolls eyes**
I had to jump through so many hoops to get this
frappin' thing posted, that I began to wonder if
LJ was sending me a message of some sort

Wow... Pretty interesting take on John there - not putting up with crap. I like the idea of him going away until they come to their senses. Well done!

I think we ALL can relate to that feeling at least once in our lifetime eh??
It is obviously far fetched but as some have reminded me, this is after all fiction.........
HOWEVER some of it smacks of truth, e.g. remembrance in training etc.
I can relate to having them in your face, up close and personal, as they are shouting some question etc.
I still smile when I think of that............
My days at OCS were fraught with details I disclosed in this little ficlet........

They can be quite tough to deal with, particularly when they are
locking horns with Sheppard.

my delving into his mind.....
