Admin: an experiment--Sunday Circle

hey guys:

we're going to try an experiment tomorrow to see if we can get some participation going on with our comm's artists and writers and also members who want to contribute with discussion and screenshots, macros, fanmixes and anything else that isn't a "work" in the traditional sense. Just bring yourselves and your Love of Show and anything else and we'll see what happens. We'll call it SGA Saturday--Sunday Circle. ~: But the post will of course be open until it dies down and we open the next one.

Tomorrow's topic will be based on this week's prompt, limn, so bring your ideas, your picspam, etc., based on manuscripts, paintings, stories from the show, whatever...

(and overbooked! I hope you are finding a sane place, lambchop.)

thank you! yis, it is doing surprisingly well, the Little Comm That Could. \o/ folks are being so lovely supportive of each other. we're just thinking other people might want to play, too, in their own ways.

I'm super excited for this! (Forgot it was happening this week, I am losing my head. ) I've been wondering how we might encourage picspams and fanmixes and all and sundry, and this seems like such a great way to spark some of that.

ooh, yes, I added fanmixes to the description. \o/ this is going to be SO AWESOME.

I'm trying to get someone to make us blu-ray screenshots of Lorne painting in "Sunday". :)))) Paint, Pretty Artist Boy! Paint!

This is so cool...I love doing picspams and stuff like that. I normally do a graphic to go with my stories, and I do them first, to keep my focus on what I want to write. Hey, they aren't great but they are certainly fun to do.

I just got back from dinner and I have to tell you, I spent the entire dinner thinking...limn...what the hell am I going to do with "limn"?

This "Little Comm that Could" is becoming an obsession!

Limn??????? Muse, where are you?????

I'd like to participate, but I don't have the time to get an idea and write it out in a week, along with all the other long-term writing projects I have.

I have five or six half-finished stories that I just didn't finish before the challenge ended and which I don't have much incentive to finish without the challenge.
Aug. 7th, 2011 02:37 pm (UTC)
Yeah I have some of those! I did manage once, early on to adapt a half finished story to the next prompt, but that was just a lucky co-incidence. But isn't there going to be an amnesty, in September I think? (maybe esteefee or lilyfarfalla can confirm this)
Perhaps we could have a way of challenging us writers to get our half finished stories ready for that? Maybe an art challenge, or a cheerleading post here, where people can publish little bits and pieces or get encouragement or advice?

As someone who doesn't have a regular (okay okay!!!) any beta readers I would certainly enjoy something like that.

September 1st is our first amnesty, which means we challenge you guys to finish up any and all of those stories to post them the week of Sept. 1-8. :)))) I would love to see what you've been working on, tielan. and scarlett, I'm happy to provide beta service if you need it.

However, if one week is not enough to finish stories, maybe we should occasionally have 2 week prompts? I don't think we should permanently change the structure of the comm since it seems to be working in general, although we might also put the question to the greater community and see if there are lots of lurking people who are having this issue. Maybe the prompts need to be every two weeks instead of one.

Two thoughts:
1) let's make a formal announcement about upcoming amnesty week so people with half written fics can plan ahead?
2) hmmm, I like the idea of doing occasional two week prompts. Maybe we could switch off between 1 and 2 weeks? And with two weeks we could do the Sunday circle in the middle? I don't know. I'd be happy to get more community feedback, etc.

yes! I was just thinking we should give people fair warning about upcoming amnesty.

and doing occasional two week prompts is awesome idea...maybe the two week prompts can be two-word prompts so it's obvious? :)

I think that one week challenges are great for readers, if you know that every week there will be great new things to look at and read I think it makes it a more lively community.

I know my problem is that my best time for writing is the weekend, and usually I can get it done in that time, but if I have plans for the weekend, like I did this Saturday then the story doesn't get fininshed.

But I have the unfinished stories still and as there is an amnesty coming and there will be a whole week to post them, then I will aim to get them done.

How about still having a weekly challenge but have a monthly one too, then those who can write more can have both to do and those who have limited time, or who want to write something longer have something else to aim for. And the readers have even more to read.

And in reply to your very kind offer of beta services, really? are you sure? because that would be a great help and kindness to me. Thank you :-)

yes, indeedy, re: beta, my email is in my profile. I can't guarantee I'll always have time (or for epics) but send it on my way.

Awww missed Sunday! I'm always behind on everything! Wah! *g*

I like scarlettandblue's idea: continue the weekly challenges but have a monthly challenge also.
Aug. 8th, 2011 09:03 pm (UTC)
no, no, Sunday discussion post is open all week!

monthly challenge, hmmm...that seems like not enough of a deadline to actually get people's blood pumping...?

but we shall take a poll I think.
